XVIII

Their conversation grew nearer,
Dotted with laughs and comfortable pauses,
And then it ended.
Their melodious calls
Sang into the suns rays that
Reflected too brightly in my eyes.

But silence would never come.

But the endings and beginnings that I witnessed,
Could only ever be as enjoyable as the other.
As one ended, another would always begin,
Ignoring my vain desire for neither.

The earth began my pain
And ended it.
I wanted silence
And I heard everything.

I dare not meet the birds' hollow heads
in death's dream kingdom.
